Rob Jacobs was born in Brooklyn, New York, and
grew up in Los Angeles, from the age of five with his father, Harry,
mother, Grace and his brother, Ray.
Much of his life has been centered around the
areas of music, art, health, meditation and the study of Eastern
thought and philosophy.
His work, in the field of commercial art, was,
in his own commercial art business, as a photo retoucher to the
advertising and entertainment industries. During the last
twenty years of his retouching business, he was located across
from the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. Rob’s dream,
however, was to produce his own images, and this was implemented
in 1990. |
Since then he has produced six series
of art, including: The
Warriors, The West, The Western Haiku, The Starbucks
Haikus and Angels of Protection. His
latest series, The Lakota Spirits, are his graphic representations,
of these spirits, inspired from the book, Meditations With
Native Americans – Lakota Spirituality by Paul Steinmetz.
His work is mixed media, including the use of photographic dyes,
paints, sand, glitter, airbrush, gels, and other materials. His
work is built from the palettes he created from his days as a retoucher. |

Rob has participated in many
shows in the Los Angeles area, including, the LA County Museum
of Art, (where most of his pieces were either sold or rented before
the opening of the show). His work is in many collections in
the United States. In 2005 he was the featured artist during
the Angel Fest, held at the Learning Light Foundation in Anaheim,
California. His work has been utilized in television including
the shows “Boston Public,” “Family Law,” “Arrested
Development, ”Huff,” and others. His art was the
work of the character played by Toni Colette in the HBO movie, “Dinner
with Friends.” |
 |
As a former music major,
Rob is also working on a music project with fine artist/illustrator/musician
Greg Spalenka, and recording engineers/musicians Bill Brendle and
James Raymond. Everyone is enthusiastic about
this project. Much
of it sounds very tribal.
Rob lives in the Los Angeles area and has
two sons, Seth and Ethan. |
